Besan Gatte Curry

Ingredients For gatte

  • Besan – 45 g
  • Baking soda- 1/6 tsp.
  • Salt- 1/4 tsp.
  • Ginger- 1'' piece
  • Curds- 1 Tablespoon
  • Coriander leaves- a sprig
  • Oil- 1 tsp.
  • Water- 1-1/2Tablespoon

For gravy

  • Oil-1Tablespoon
  • Clove-2
  • Cinnamon- 1'' piece
  • Cumin seeds- 1/4 tsp.
  • Asafoetida- a pinch
  • Onion- 1 medium
  • Tomato -1 medium
  • Curds- 50 g
  • Salt- 1/4 tsp.
  • Coriander Powder-1/2 tsp.

Method

  1. For gatte mix besan, soda, salt, finely chop ginger and coriander leaves, beaten curd and fat. Make stiff and pliable dough with water and make into a roll.
  2. Boil in1 1/2 cup of water in steamer and steam roll for 30 min. when cool cut into 1 1/2 cm. pieces.
  3. For gravy heat ghee in a pan and add whole spices and fry to golden color,add sliced onion and fry to golden brown color.Add chopped tomatoes and fry again. Add beaten curds, salt , chilli powder, coriander powder , turmeric powder and fry till fat separates. add cup reserved liquid , bring to boil, add gatte ( gatte may be deep fried before adding to the gravy) and simmer on low heat for 10 min. Just before removing add garam masala and cardamom powder.
  4. Serve hot garnished with coriander powder.
