Onion chutney (pyaaz ki chutney)

Onions are an important part of almost all Indian recipes. They are an integral part of masalas for Indian curries and snacks and even eaten raw as a salad with meals. So, onion chutney is another way to enjoy the taste of onions with the meals.


  • Onion-2 medium sized
  • Garlic- 6-8 cloves
  • Red chilli powder- 1 teaspoon ( or you can also add green chillies 2-3
  • Channa dal – 4 teaspoons (roasted channa dal)
  • Tamarind pulp- 1 tablespoon
  • Mustard seeds-1/2 teaspoon
  • Curry leaves- a sprig(optional)
  • Oil-1 teaspoon
  • Salt- to taste


  1. In a grinder make a paste of the onions,garlic,tamarind (imli) pulp and channa dal.
  2. To this paste add red chilli powder and salt according to your taste.
  3. In a karahi add 1 teaspoon of oil when it gets warm add mustard seeds let it sputter, now add curry leaves to it (optional) .
  4. Put this baghar or tadka over the onion chutney and relish this delicious chutney with your meals.
